2016 & 2018 & 2019 EVENT: Wiffle Ball HR Derby
To win at this event you must be able to hit a wiffle ball a great distance multiple times. We recommend a huge mouthful of bubble gum or sun flower seeds while swinging away (this is guaranteed to help you hit more home runs and please let us know if it actually works).
Rules: Singles Event
a) Use an approved wiffle ball bat - just your basic yellow bat (water logged newspaper stuffed into the inside of a duct tape wrapped wiffle ball bat is not an approved bat)
b) The batter receives up to 10 pitches from a live pitcher
c) The batter has 7 swings. Every swing resulting in a home run or not counts as a swing.
d) At the end of the 10 pitches OR 7 swings the batter's turn is up.
e) Each ball hit over the fence or line on the ground is counted as a home run.
f) For adults, the pitches can be thrown either overhand or underhand. For youth, the pitches can be thrown either overhand or underhand.
h) There will be two rounds. All participants bat during the opening round.
i) The top 5 participants in each age/gender category advance to the finals. If there is a tie for 5th place my multiple participants, all of those participants qualify for the finals.
j) The finals consist of 7 swings (pick your pitches to swing at wisely)
k) The finals must result in clear winners for 1st and 2nd place (as those two finishers will qualify to represent your neighborhood at the Cincinnati Neighborhood Games in July).
l) Tie breaker rounds consist of 3 swings.
m) There will be an adult and youth fence (a line on the ground works as well). Adult fence should be between 80-100' from the plate and the youth fence should be between 40-60' from the plate.
To lose
1) Hit less home runs than the other participants
To Win
1) Hit the enough home runs to qualify for the finals, then hit the most home runs in the finals to win (pretty simple really).
Singles Age Groups: 2 - Youth (age 7-13) and Adults (14 and older)
Qualifying Singles per Neighborhood: 4 - First Place per Gender and Age Group will qualify
Maximum Qualifying Participants Per Neighborhood: 4 - (2 youth and 2 adult)
